Koskapa teen vain töitä, postaan sitten töitä. Tämän tein keväällä Maailman kuvalehti Kumppaniin, juttuun, joka käsitteli länsimaisen psykologian suhtautumista kehitysmaihin. On mielenkiintoista, että vasta viime aikoina on alettu myöntää, että etelässä saattaa olla aivan samanlaisia mielenterveysongelmia ja laajamittaista masennusta kuin länsimaissakin.

Because all I do is work, I'll post some here. I did this illustration for a Finnish magazine that focuses on the "rest of the world" basically meaning everything outside the western industrialised nations. The article was about the attitude of western psychology on people of the developing nations. It is interesting that only lately it has become mainstream to admit that the people of the South might have similar mental problems and widespread depression as in the privileged third of the globe.

Conte-mayhem

Voi tätä paradoksia - piirrän niin paljon, ettei ole mitään, mitä laittaa blogiin... Työt vievät tosiaan kaiken ajan, joten päivitystahti on taas kärsinyt. Tässä kuitenkin viime vuoden loppupuolelta kuva erittäin nopealiikkeisestä tytöstä.

Oh, the irony - I'm drawing so much nowadays that I have nothing to show on the blog... Work is eating away such a big part of my time it makes updating a bit difficult. However, here's a picture of a very fast-moving girl from the end of last year.

Tein tämän vielä viimeisenä päivänä Dublinissa. Amerikkalaisen turistin ryhti oli niin outo, että sitä oli pakko yrittää saada paperille. Eihän se todellakaan ole mitenkään imartelevaa ketään kohtaan, mutta todella hienoja hahmoja näistä tulee! (ja jos olet Dublinissa ja taksin tarpeessa, soita vain kuvassa näkyvään numeroon)

I did this on our last day in Dublin. The way this tourist carried herself was so bizarre that I had to capture it on paper. I know I'm not exactly flattering anyone when I do these kind of studies but they make such amazing characters! (and if you're in Dublin and need a taxi, simply dial the number on the picture)

Tietotekniikan Ikaros

Tämän projektin kanssa oli oikeasti hauskaa. Kuva on Prima-lehdestä alkuvuodelta. Kynillä saa joskus yllättävän kivoja efektejä aikaiseksi, kun ei lähde ilottelemaan väreillä turhan paljon.

I had a lot of fun with this project. The image is from a Finnish magazine early this year. Sometimes I'm surprised how cool effects you can get out of the pencils if you don't go bazoink with colour (please forgive my poor Don Martinism).

Tämä oli kansikuvaluonnos ja markkinointikansi tietokirjaan, mutta sitä ei koskaan julkaistu valmiissa kirjassa. Hauskinta kuvassa on, että se oli todella nopea tuottaa (tosin pohjalla oli pitkä luonnosketju) - koko kuva oli valmis tunnissa. Tämä on se kohta, jossa Painter loistaa. Jos säästyy pahemmilta bugeilta ja kaatumisilta, joita kyllä riittää, sillä voi tuottaa käyttökelpoista materiaalia todella nopeasti.

This was a sketch for a book cover and also the marketing cover for the book while it was still in production. It was never used for the finished product though. The best thing about this picture is that it was very quick to produce (having been extensively sketched beforehand) - the finished image was ready within an hour's time. This is the part where Painter shines. If you are spared the worse bugs and crashes, which there are plenty of , you can produce usable material extremely quickly.
